Providence Health & Services Executive Director, Cloud and Automation Engineering in Missoula, Montana
The Executive Director, Cloud and Automation Engineering is responsible for the design, development and deployment of a PSJH enterprise Cloud and Automation engineering service line and strategy. The Cloud and Automation strategy is crucial to the organizations financial performance due to its ability to drive down costs and stabilize the environment. The scope of this senior leadership position is enterprise wide, including coordination across multiple pillars in the organization and the ability to anticipate long term needs. Requires ability to evaluate external and vendor technologies in alignment with overall, long term organizational strategy. Position represents Engineering in communication and stakeholder collaboration, for both internal and external executives and leaders.
Leading the organization to engineer production solutions that are highly economical, available, reliable, secure, fully documented, and in accordance with industry best practices.
The development and implementation of standards and policies across all disciplines for enterprise cloud and automation engineering services.
Establishing and managing annual operating and capital budgets; developing and governing adherence to standards and policies; and building and supporting a professional, creative and collaborative team.
For monitoring, evaluating, and integrating emerging technologies into the PSJH environment; responsible for developing engineering standards and policies related to emerging technologies.
Providing responsive leadership to delegate, coordinate, and motivate staff; evaluating performance for direct reports and for contractors/other peoples’ direct reports; and working with individuals and HR to improve performance as needed.
Maintaining forward looking and strategic partnerships with key technology vendors, ensuring innovative strategies are incorporated into future roadmaps.
Familiarity with Security, cloud services and automation, Database technologies (e.g. Oracle & SQL), Storage and Backup technologies, Client Systems technologies, UNIX and Windows server, virtualization technologies and tools.
Serving as sponsor and/or owner, as appropriate, for technology projects and initiatives within areas of accountability.
Advocating IS goals and commitments; understanding the vision of PSJH and be able to deploy that vision through functional areas.
Knowing when to proactively communicate with leadership about issues and problems that exist in their own functional area; performs daily interaction with staff; holds regular team meetings.
Possible required traveling up to 25% of work schedule.

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Business Management, Information Services, or other studies; or equivalent education/experience.
Master’s Degree in Information Service or Business Administration.
At least twelve (12) years of Information Services technical experience in infrastructure operations, engineering, or architecture teams with a focus on networks.
At least ten (10) years of management experience.
Strong verbal communication and listening skills.

Ability to influence internal and/or external constituents.
Demonstrates a high commitment to quality.
Thorough understanding of industry leading cloud and automation technologies and extensive experience in leveraging these technologies to support business objectives.
Thorough understanding and extensive experience in establishing a cloud and automation engineering strategy, in addition to operationalizing and measuring the business value of this strategy.
Thorough understanding of automation technologies and extensive experience in the use of these tools to drive business outcomes. Should have foundational knowledge of technology tools such as VRA, VRO, Puppet, GitHub, Converged and Hyperconverged infrastructures, and some scripting experience.
Exceptional understanding and experience with IT Security, Network, Telecom, Database technologies (e.g. Oracle & SQL), Storage and Backup technologies, Client Systems technologies, UNIX and Windows server, Automation and Server Virtualization (e.g. VMWare) techniques, technologies, and tools.
Advanced knowledge of emerging cloud and automation technologies.
